ACTIVITY SIGN UP SHEET

ACTIVITIES

Besides conferences and competitive events, FHS FBLA is involved in community service, fundraising, and activities that improve members' understanding of business and leadership skills.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

FHS FBLA members are expected to volunteer for at least 2 activities to be eligible for attending SLC. Our chapter is involved in two main volunteer activities: cleaning the stadium after football games and working concessions during basketball games. These are easy activities that count towards your community service hours and help raise money for the chapter to attend conferences. Throughout the year, we are also involved in other volunteer activities such as helping at the Pancake Breakfast Tent during Kiwanis' Kids Day and volunteering at the Cornerstone Community Well Fundraising Banquet.

FAMILY NIGHT

To kick off the new school year and induct new members into FBLA, our Fairfield FBLA chapter hosts Family Night in September or October. Each FBLA member (new or old) brings their family and a dish to share. FBLA families enjoy a potluck style dinner and get the chance to socialize with one another. After the meal, a brief update is given to the group about what happened over the summer, FBLA Nationals! Students have the chance to share pictures, memories, and experiences with friends and families. This tradition shows the new members how exciting FBLA can be, and what amazing opportunities come from being a part of it. Next, new members are officially inducted into the chapter. As part of their induction, each new member tells the group why they are joining FBLA, or what they are looking forward to doing in FBLA. Finally, our new chapter officers are inducted by reciting the FBLA pledge.

MENTOR NIGHT

Mentor Night is a beneficial experience for all of our members. During this event, our members meet Fairfield's top business and career experts. We give our members options to which type of careers they want to sit in on and listen to. They will then sit with the career expert of their choice and listen to them about what they do and then ask them questions. We invite a variety of people with careers typically ranging from business, health care, technology, finances, and more. There is something for everybody to listen to, and even if it's not your preferred career, it’s still very interesting to hear what people in the community do on a daily basis.

PASTA NIGHT

Pasta Night is our largest fundraising activity and every member is involved. A few weeks before Pasta Night, members are given tickets to sell people to purchase their meal in advance. During Pasta Night, members work shifts to serve noodles, different sauces, garlic bread, desserts, and water, as well as clean tables and work concessions. This event raises many of our funds to get to SLC.

SHOWCASE

Showcase is Fairfield's annual event to prepare members for SLC. Hosted at the Arts & Convention Center, members competing in a performance event present in front up to 3 businesspeople that will provide feedback. Members competing in objective test events run through practice tests with the assistance of a local business person. Finally, members that aren't competing at SLC get to participate in a mock interview. With the help and support members get from this event, members are ready for the real thing at SLC.
