STATE LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
Location: Coralville Marriott Hotel & Conference Center
Date: April 1-3
SLC is the main leadership conference for many Iowa competitors. Over the span of three days, members will compete in their national and state competitive events, as well as participate in the vote for the year's new state officer team.
REGIONAL TESTING
To be eligible to compete at SLC, you must complete two objective tests online. These are unrelated to RLC. The objective tests can be completed at any time within the testing window and in any location with an internet connection. These tests are not used for any ranking and can be seen as practice tests. Although your scores have no effect on your eligibility for SLC, it's important to take these tests seriously as they are beneficial to preparing you for the real objective tests at SLC.

COMPETITIVE EVENTS
Objective tests are held in Coral Ballroom C, D, & E, and are taken online. Bring your laptop. You will be given a link and login when you enter. There will be proctors to help you with any technical issues and to prevent anyone from cheating. Once you've finished your test, you can leave through one of the ballroom's exits.

Performance events are held in meeting rooms on the first floor (above the ground floor). Wait outside your meeting room before your scheduled time and enter when the timer lets you. Greet your judges and set up your equipment for your presentation. Once you and the judges are ready, you can begin your presentation. The timer will signal when you have one minute left. Once you've finished, thank your judges and pick up any equipment you brought into the room. Do not leave anything with the judges.

It is expected of you to watch at least 6 performance events. Watching performance events will help you better understand how performance events work and how to do well in them. You may even find an event you might want to try. There are some rules to watching presentations.
-
Do not watch presentations of an event you're competing in.
-
Do not watch an event that members from Fairfield are competing in until all Fairfield members have presented. (you can watch the last presentation from a Fairfield team)
-
Do not watch a presentation if the competitors do not want you to watch.

State competitive events are held in Coral Ballroom A & B, and D & E. Events such as Spelling Relay, Vocab. Relay, and Battle of the Chapters are open to the public for viewing.
BANQUET
The Friday evening banquet is a formal dinner occasion. Use proper dining etiquette and socialize with other chapter members. During the banquet, state officers and their parents are recognized, as well as Business Persons of the Year. Chapter Recognition Awards are given out and some competitive event winners are announced.
SOCIALS
There are a couple social activities you can take part in at SLC. There is a Lip Sync Contest Thursday evening after the opening session, and the popular hypnotist show hosted by Brian Imbus on Friday after the banquet. You may even be lucky enough to get on stage! Members can also socialize in the pool and lobby.
AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE
The Awards of Excellence ceremony will recognize the top 6 competitors in each national and state competitive event. Competitors placing the top 4 in their event will receive a plaque, and 5th and 6th place will receive a certificate. Placing in the top 4 in a national event will qualify you for NLC! If you qualify for NLC in two events, you will have to pick one of them to compete in at NLC.
